A Comprehensive Weight Loss Program
At Holland Clinic, we offer a truly comprehensive medical weight loss program, designed to provide lasting solutions to obesity and weight management issues. Unlike quick-fix or single-modality programs that focus on one aspect of weight loss, we believe in a multifaceted approach to ensure sustainable results.

Our approach begins with diet
We recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all diet plan, so we work closely with our patients to create an individualized diet plan that is safe, effective, and most importantly, sustainable. We explore different dietary paths, such as calorie-focused diets, low-carbohydrate diets, and low-fat diets, always keeping long-term health and satisfaction in mind.

Exercise is another key component of our program
We advocate for sustainable, low-impact exercises that are effective without causing injury. The focus is not on rigorous workouts, but on incorporating physical activity into your everyday life in a manner that can be maintained in the long term.

Behavior modification is another crucial aspect of our comprehensive program
We teach our patients how to form healthy habits and break away from unhealthy ones. This involves techniques such as goal setting, self-monitoring, and positive reinforcement, all designed to help you establish a healthier relationship with food and exercise.

The use of prescription weight loss medication is another tool we use to facilitate weight loss. We prescribe a range of FDA-approved weight loss medications, including classic drugs like phentermine and newer GLP-1 agonist drugs. We are careful to ensure that these medications are used prudently and judiciously. While these medications can significantly ease the weight loss process, they are typically not a long-term solution. However, they are highly useful in helping to establish and reinforce new eating and exercise habits.

Our comprehensive program is not just about weight loss – it's about transforming lives. Our goal is to help our patients achieve optimum health, vitality, and longevity. At Holland Clinic, we offer a path to a healthier life, and we are with you every step of the way.
Structured Treatment Phases: Embracing a Scientific and Sensible Approach to Weight Loss at Holland Clinic

The care provided at Holland Clinic is organized, and best understood, in distinct phases of medical weight loss. Refer to the diagram provided below to comprehend the relationship between these stages. Let's delve deeper into each phase and their significance in tailoring a superior weight loss program for you:

Phase 1: "Efficacy"
The first phase of the Holland Clinic's weight loss program, labeled "efficacy", typically spans between 4 to 12 weeks. The singular objective of this phase is to ascertain whether our treatment plan, which includes weight loss medication, is effective enough to bring about substantial improvements in your health. The primary metric for this assessment is weight loss. We aim for an initial loss of 5% or more of the starting weight. Achieving this modest goal can lead to significant health benefits, thereby justifying the continuation of the current treatment plan. It's noteworthy that patients usually exceed this preliminary goal and progress seamlessly to the second phase.

Phase 2: "Optimization"
Upon successful demonstration that your health is improving under our care, you transition to the second phase, "optimization". Here, the goal shifts towards maximizing the benefits to your health, generally by optimizing your weight control medication regimen. Depending on your health status and preferences, we might increase your weight loss medication dosage or consider adding different types of weight loss medication. The core aim here is to enhance your health, primarily by maximizing weight loss through strategic adjustments of your prescribed weight loss medications. The optimization phase usually lasts between 4 to 26 weeks.

Phase 3: "Maintenance"
Having achieved your weight loss goals in the optimization phase, the next step is "maintenance". The objective here is straightforward: to preserve your weight loss with minimal medical intervention. Many patients choose to discontinue their medications at this stage and manage their weight independently. However, some may prefer to continue with a low-dose medication regimen for an extended period. The maintenance phase is flexible and can vary in duration based on individual needs.

The diagram below elucidates how patients can transition between these phases and resume care as needed.
